Year 4 2018 - 2019

Mrs Everett

SENCO, Year 4 teacher

Welcome to Year 4!

I do hope that you have all had a lovely summer holiday and are ready for the year ahead.  The children have settled back in to school life well and are already making progress.

In English lessons, we have started the year with an amusing text called 'Queen Victoria's Knickers' - the chldren were thoroughly entertained by the story and they enjoyed reading it to each other.  We have already completed some hot seating role play and we have used this to help us to record speech accurately.

In maths, we have started our place value unit and have spent the first few days consolidating what we know about number and the value of the digits in a four digit number.  We will soon be moving on to work on calculations, using our knowledge of number to help us.

I look forward to working with you this year.  Please do not hesitate to come and speak to me if you have any questions.

Key information

All reading books and journals need to be in school everyday. Please try to read at least three times a week with your child.

Homework will be given out every Wednesday and will need to be returned to school the following Monday.

Spellings will be given out on a Friday and there will be a spelling test the following Friday.  Your child will be given spellings approriate to the spelling group that they are working in.

Children complete two tests each Friday - a test of the spellings they have practised and a test of the new spellings that they will be given to practise that week (a pre-test).  This is so that we can celebrate the progress of each child from one week to the next.

PE kits will need to be in school each Monday and they can be taken home each Friday or at the end of the half term.  PE will take place on Tueday and Thursday afternoons, though there may be occasions when PE kits are required for other activities/unscheduled events and so it is important that your child's kit is in school every day.
