Not only are our year 3 pupils learning about China as part of their Creative Curriculum – they are also learning to speak the language!

Mrs Williams said,  “As a school we are doing all we can to ensure a rich and exciting curriculum and this is just one of exciting projects our children will be taking part in.”

Over the past  weeks they have been learning Mandarin greetings and numbers with Ormiston Bolingbroke’s specialist teacher Zhao Siqin and are thoroughly enjoying themselves in the process!

Year 3 pupil Bailey said, ” I’ve really enjoyed learning how to write my numbers in Chinese. I’ve watched people draw them on TV and wished I could do it. Now I can!”

The project began with Miss Ditchfield and Mrs Riley preparing a Chinese buffet tasting session for the class where the children learnt how to eat with chopsticks.

Having already researched famous Chinese landmarks including The Great Wall of China; created interesting art work inspired by Chinese artists, including blossom paintings, and decorated Chinese lanterns with Chinese colours and symbols the next project for the class will be writing reports about Giant Pandas living in China – a topic they are absolutely loving!
