For the pupils at Palace Fields Primary Academy, playtimes have become another highlight of the day following the complete transformation of both their Infant and Junior outside areas.

The playgrounds now boast a wide selection of age related activities including a mud kitchen, water wall and construction games for key stage 1 whilst the key stage 2 area includes ‘Snakes and Ladders’, mathematical games and an adventure trail. Both playgrounds also have a brand new ‘Buddy Stop’.

The project was instigated by members of the school council who, with the complete backing of Executive Principal Mrs Annette Williams, began by mind mapping ideas to improve the outdoor spaces.

Initial ideas were discussed with, and added to by children in each class, resulting in a final wish list containing the most exciting ideas for ways to improve the outdoor areas! The school council presented a letter outlining their plans to Mrs Williams and they were put into action.

Paige Heaps, year 5 school council representative said, “I love the new playground. It’s really enjoyable and it helps us to learn and have fun at the same time!”
