An Eye on London!
Our Year 6 pupils were handed a Golden Ticket to rival that of Charlie Bucket when they learnt they were heading for a surprise overnight trip to London!
Whilst parents and staff had been in on the surprise, the children themselves knew nothing about it until Mrs Everett sent them on a treasure hunt to gather clues about their end of year treat.
“The children have worked extremely hard in the build up to their SATs and we felt their efforts needed to be recognised. They couldn’t believe it when they found out we’d booked a trip to London for them. The whole trip was a complete success with all children and staff thoroughly enjoying themselves – a perfect end to their time at Palace Fields.”
Along with a theatre trip to ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, the children also took a ride on the London Eye which was particularly exciting given that their literacy work this term had been based on ‘The London Eye Mystery’ by Siobhan Dowd. The Siobhan Dowd Foundation had even tweeted the school to wish the children luck on their visit!
As most of the class had never been to London before, it was particularly exciting and, over the two days the children walked over ten miles taking in such sights as Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square and Covent Gardens. Each step of the visit was posted on Twitter so that parents could see what a fantastic time their children were having.
Mrs Williams said, “This was such an amazing opportunity, as it not only brought pupils’ learning to life, it allowed our Y6 to understand more about British heritage. Such experiences are a sign of things to come at Palace Fields. We are determined that learning will broaden our children’s horizons still further. They were wonderful ambassadors for our school and we are very proud of them.”
