Year 4/5

Miss Edwards

Year 4/5 class teacher

Welcome to the Year 4/5 Class Page!

"Learning and growing together!”

I'm sure we are all ready and raring to go for another half-term of learning, memorable experiences and development at Palace Fields; academically, socially and emotionally.

Each day, we expect our pupils to demonstrate our school values (KIT - Kindness, Integrity and Tenacity) in all that they do, whilst showing mutual respect and tolerance to one another too.

To view our Year 4/5 curriculum overview, please see the files section at the bottom of this page. This document will outline the topics for each term, for each area of the curriculum.

Key Information

Uniform

Our pupils should arrive at school in full school uniform, including suitable all-black footwear. Please can you ensure that your child's uniform is clearly labelled with their name. We will always encourage children to be responsible for their own belongings whilst in school. For PE, the children require a white t-shirt, black/navy shorts and pumps/trainers for every lesson.

Reading

At Palace Fields, we have set the expectation that children are reading at home every day, as well as having their reading books in school with them every day. Our school library is open to the children every break time for them to take books out, and then swap them, once they have finished. Personally, I would love to see the children bringing in their own books so that we can continue to build a positive reading culture in Year 4/5.

Our class book for this half term is The Land of Roar!

Homework

Each week, the children should be completing TT Rockstars. Please also ensure your child continues reading their book-banded or phonics book daily. I will send home 10 spelling words every Monday for the children to practise at home, ready for a short spelling test on Friday. Alongside our homework each week, I will be setting a stand-alone homework quest that should be completed over the course of a few weeks – details can be found at the bottom of this page, along with our curriculum map!

For PE lessons and extracurricular sports clubs, children require a white top, black/navy shorts and pumps/trainers. Our P.E days are Mondays for Dance and Wednesday for gymnastics.

Water Bottles

We encourage children to bring a labelled reusable bottle of water to school daily to keep them hydrated throughout their lessons. The children will have many opportunities throughout the day to have a drink of water. Please remember that juice is not permitted in water bottles stored in class but may be consumed with their snack at break time and packed lunch at lunchtime.
