Year 5

Mr Green

Year 5 class teacher

Welcome to the Year 5 Class Page!

"Learning and growing together!”

Welcome to Year 5! I hope everyone had a brilliant break and excited for the half-term ahead. I am really looking forward to working alongside the Year 5 children and watching them flourish academically, socially and emotionally. I am so excited for all the learning and experiences that this academic year will bring and I cannot wait to see the children develop and achieve throughout the year.

Each day, we expect all children to embody our KIT values (Kindness, Integrity and Tenacity) in everything they do. We also encourage them to treat others with mutual respect and tolerance, helping to create a supportive classroom and school environment where everyone feels valued and can thrive.

To view our Year 5 Curriculum Overview, please see the files section at the bottom of this page. This document outlines all the topics and areas of learning that the children will cover each term.

You will also find the Year 5 Autumn Term Knowledge Organisers, which provide key subtractive knowledge and vocabulary to support every child’s learning throughout the term.

Key Information

Our pupils should arrive at school in full school uniform, including suitable all-black footwear. Please can you ensure that your child's uniform is clearly labelled with their name. We will always encourage children to be responsible for their own belongings whilst in school. For PE, the children require a white t-shirt, black/navy shorts and pumps/trainers for every lesson.

Reading

At Palace Fields, we have set the expectation that children are reading at home every day, as well as having their reading books in school with them every day. Our school library is open to the children every break time for them to take books out, and then swap them, once they have finished. Personally, I would love to see the children bringing in their own books so that we can continue to build a positive reading culture in Year 5.

Our class book for this half term is A Series of Unfortunate Events – The Bad Beginning

Homework

Each week, the children should be completing TT Rockstars, focusing on all times tables. Please also ensure your child continues reading their book-banded or free reader book daily. I will send home 10 spelling words every Monday for the children to practise at home, ready for a short spelling test on Friday. Alongside our homework each week, I will be setting a stand-alone homework quest that should be completed over the course of a few weeks – details can be found at the bottom of this page, along with our curriculum map!

The children will be developing their knowledge and skills in OAA (Outdoor Adventurous Activities) on Mondays and athletics on Tuesdays. Children are expected to bring a full PE kit for every lesson, including a plain white top, navy/black shorts and trainers/pumps.

Water Bottles

We encourage children to bring a labelled reusable bottle of water to school daily to keep them hydrated throughout their lessons. The children will have many opportunities throughout the day to have a drink of water. Please remember that juice is not permitted in water bottles stored in class but may be consumed with their snack at break time and packed lunch at lunchtime.

Should you have any concerns or queries, please know that I am usually available to talk at home time, or you can contact me via Seesaw.

As always, thank you for your continued support,

Mr Green
