Mrs Bailey

Deputy Head of School and Year 5 class teacher

Welcome to the Year 5 Class Page!

"Learning and growing together!”

Welcome back to our final half term in Year 5! I can't quite believe we are nearly at the end of this fantastic school year!

Each day, we expect our pupils to show our KIT (Kindness, Integrity and Tenacity) values in all that they do, whilst showing mutual respect and tolerance to one another.

To view our Year 5 curriculum overview, please see the files section at the bottom of this page. This document will outline the topics for each term, for each area of the curriculum.

Key Information

Uniform

Our pupils should arrive at school in full school uniform, including suitable all-black footwear. Please can you ensure that your child's uniform is clearly labelled with their name. We will always encourage children to be responsible for their own belongings whilst in school. PE this half-term will be our swimming lessons on a Wednesday afternoon. We also have a few Dance lessons later on in the half-term, taking place on a Monday morning. These start on Monday 16th June.

Reading

At Palace Fields, we have set the expectation that children read at home every day, as well as having their reading books in school with them every day. Our library is open to the children every break time for them to take books out, and then swap them, once they have finished. Personally, I would love to see the children bringing in their own books so that we can continue to build a positive reading culture in Year 5! The class book we will be continuing to read this half-term is Holes by Louis Sacher.

Homework

Homework this half-term will be set every Friday with the expectation that it will be back in school the following Friday. The main focus of our homework will be a mixture of Maths and grammar. The grammar homework will continue to be based upon our Friday grammar lesson in class.

Water Bottles

We encourage children to bring a labelled reusable bottle of water to school daily to keep them hydrated throughout their lessons. The children will have many opportunities throughout the day to have a drink of water. Please remember that juice is not permitted in water bottles stored in class but may be consumed with their snack at break time and packed lunch at lunchtime.
