Year 5/6

Mr Roberts

Deputy Headteacher

Welcome to the Year 5/6 Class Page!

"Learning and growing together!”

Each day, we expect our pupils to show our KIT (Kindness, Integrity and Tenacity) values in all that they do, whilst showing mutual respect and tolerance to one another.

To view our Year 5/6 curriculum overview, please see the files section at the bottom of this page. This document will outline the topics for each term, for each area of the curriculum.

Key Information

Our pupils should arrive at school in full school uniform, including suitable all-black footwear. Please can you ensure that your child's uniform is clearly labelled with their name. We will always encourage children to be responsible for their own belongings whilst in school.

Reading

At Palace Fields, we have set the expectation that children read at home every day, as well as having their reading books in school with them every day. Our library is open to the children every break time for them to take books out, and then swap them, once they have finished. Personally, I would love to see the children bringing in their own books so that we can continue to build a positive reading culture in Year 5/6!

The class text we will be continuing to read this half-term is The Boy Who Made Everyone Laugh by Helen Rutter

Homework

Each week, the children should be completing TT Rockstars. Please also ensure your child continues reading daily. I will be setting a stand-alone homework quest that should be completed over the course of a few weeks – details can be found at the bottom of this page, along with our curriculum map!

PE

The children will be developing their knowledge and skills in dance/drama (Monday) and football (Tuesday. Children are expected to have a full PE kit for every lesson (e.g. plain white top, navy/black shorts and trainers/pumps).

Water Bottles

We encourage children to bring a labelled reusable bottle of water to school daily to keep them hydrated throughout their lessons. The children will have many opportunities throughout the day to have a drink of water. Please remember that juice is not permitted in water bottles stored in class but may be consumed with their snack at break time and packed lunch at lunchtime.
