Year 1

Miss Quixley

Year 1 Class Teacher

Welcome to the Year 1 Class Page!

"Learning and growing together!”

Coming back after the Easter break, I am very much looking forward to helping the children develop and progress academically, socially and emotionally throughout the last term of year 1. There are lots of new learning and topics to cover, and I am excited about lots of memorable learning experiences along the way.

Each day, we expect our pupils to show our ACORN (ambition, creativity, ownership, resilience and nurture) values in all that they do, whilst showing mutual respect and tolerance to one another.

To view our Year 1 curriculum overview, please see the files section at the bottom of this page. This document will outline the topics for each term, for each area of the curriculum.

In addition to this, you will find the Year 1 summer term timetable and our summer term knowledge organisers.

Our pupil’s should arrive at school in full school uniform, including suitable all-black footwear. Please can you ensure that your child's uniform is clearly labelled with their name. We will always encourage children to be responsible for their own belongings whilst in school.

At Palace Fields, we have set the expectation that children are reading at home every day, as well as having their reading books in school with them every day. Our library is open to the children every break time for them to take books out, and then swap them, once they have finished. Personally, I would love to see the children bringing in their own books so that we can continue to build a positive reading culture in Year 1!

Homework will be set every Thursday with the expectation that it will be back in school the following Tuesday. Alongside our homework each week, I will be setting a stand-alone homework quest that should be completed over the course of a few weeks - details can be found at the bottom of this page, along with our curriculum map!

The children will be developing their knowledge and skills in target games and fundamental skills on a Wednesday and Friday. Children are expected to have full PE kit for every lesson (ie. plain white top, navy/black shorts and trainers/pumps).

Snack is available in school (milk and toast). If your child is having snack, we ask that it is brought in on Monday morning in an envelope with your child's name and the amount clearly shown. For both milk and toast, it is £3.00 for the week (60p per day).

We encourage children to bring a bottle of water to school daily to keep them hydrated throughout their lessons. The children will have many opportunities throughout the day to have a drink of water. Please remember that juice is not permitted in water bottles stored in class but may be consumed with their snack at break time and packed lunch at lunchtime.
